Where the game scoring system come from?Answer: Originally the score keeper had a pair of 'clocks' round each of which he/she moved a pointer to point at the markers that were at 15{min} 30 {min} and 45{min} positions. Over the years 45 has become 40, somehow. So when he/she glanced down seeing the two pointers in same orientation were recognisable as equal score.
